GAME SITUATIONS

CUT-OFF AND RELAY

Game Situation – Base hit to left with nobody on base

DEFENSIVE RESPONSIBILITY OF EACH POSITION

Pitcher – Backs up 2nd base. Gets to a position between 1st and 2nd base where he
is in a direct line from the left fielder and the second base bag.

Catcher – Trails the runner to 1st base.

1st Baseman – Stays around the 1 st base area and is ready in case of an overthrow to
2nd base from left field. Make sure the runner touches 1 st base in case the ball gets by
the left fielder and the runner continues on to 2nd base.

2nd Baseman – Covers 2nd base.

Short Stop – Lines himself up in a straight line in short left field between the left fielder
and 2nd base to create and easy straight line throw to second base. Also is in position
to cut off the throw.

3rd Baseman – Stays in 3rd base area.

Left fielder – Fields the ball and makes a firm hard throw head high to the short stop in
an attempt to throw the ball through the short stop and all the way to 2nd base.

Center fielder – Moves towards left field letting the fielder know to throw the ball to 2nd base.

Right Fielder – Comes in towards 2nd base to back up the throw.

OFF SEASON CONDITIONING

When you show up for tryouts on that first day of practice, it will help tremendously if you are in fairly decent shape so you can avoid injury while playing your way into game shape. Jogging and calisthenics will help maintain cardiovascular strength. Push ups will improve your arm and upper body strength. Sit ups will increase abdominal and core strength and jumping rope will increase your overall conditioning.

Being able to take 50-100 swings a day will help maintain full range of motion so you can minimize risk of torn muscles and sprains when you start to hit off of live pitching.

If you can find a place to throw, 30-50 throws a day will help keep the arm loose and prepare it for actual game like throws when you begin practices. The key is to use actual playing motions in your workouts so you can strengthen the muscles in the same way that you will use them during the game. Try to simulate the actual motions used during the game with your exercises. Be creative and you will see your workouts become more valuable.

NOTES FROM THE CLUBHOUSE . . . . .

Our goal is to make a difference in their futures and to create a positive experience that they can bring back home where they can make a difference in their community. We salute each & every player, coach and parent for helping those play the game they love to play.”
